Our barbecue on 27th July at Greenhill House was a great success as always and thanks to all who supplied salads & desserts. Martin did us proud with his cooking once again especially the burgers that came from a new source. It's not just the barbecue for which Martin needs congratulations for but with the residents and the Gardening Club he has performed miracles to bring the theme of hot air ballooning to life in the garden.

Timsbury Fun Day 19th June 2010

In spite of a cold cold wind the Wine Circle stand at the Timsbury Fun Day was outstanding and drew
a lot of customers. We all had a good time and even made a small profit.

Before the event the hardworking gazeebo team put up the shelter.

Wales & West latest on Bank Holiday weekend

Congratulations to Dave & Joan for getting second place out of twelve entries with their dry white (we will never hear the last of this) and to Helena who came 4th with her Jar of Picalili and 4th for Art Posture. A good weekend was had by all I hear even if there were only a few Timsbury members there.

Just a reminder that the BBQ at Cheshire Home will be on Wednesday 28th July not the 21st as in our programme

What a great evening we had with skittles at the Joliffe, Kilmersdon on Friday 19th March 2010,
all wrapped up with sausages & chips or a ploughman's. Our thanks to Wendy who arranged the evening.

Colin started the evening off by bowling overarm at the stickerup whilst Rita, Ian, Val & John look on.

and the others look bored stiff

But we all became interested when Hazel came on. A little advice from Iris to use two balls at a time showed how she could become a star skittler and assume the correct pose

John gave it a good stare and Val did it with her eyes closed but still won the killer.

Ray takes a more relaxed position as he puts the ball straight through

But Wendy was in complete control whether skittling or scoring.

Due to the snowy conditions the AGM was postponed until the February 2010 meeting. This also coincided with our celebration of Dave & Joan Ruby wedding. Joan supplied a lovely buffet whilst Dave wandered around lighting the candles. Here are a few photos of the occasion.

On Saturday 16th January with the snow all gone, 19 of us joined Bath and three other wine circles

Your committee visited the New Inn at Farmborough for their annual meal in January 2010, at their own expense I may add, missing the worst weather of the month.

Once again the ingenuity of members was put to the test at our 2009 Christmas Party meeting.
Lots of food, handicraft to test the best of the best and a difficult quiz that caused brows to furrow. Here
are a few photos of the evening.

Graham had to have a helping hand to stop his hat falling off and Dorothy was the winner. Mary had a hat for each occasion although the other Graham was a bit doubtful by the look on his face.

Mary had a slight design fault with her second hat and Graham is looking like Mr. Spock crossed with a cavalier.

As you can see a good time was had by all.

Bath Wine Circle Annual Wine Show. Culverhay School, Rush Hill.

We had some success last Saturday (14th November) at the wine show. Wendy won the Preece
Trophy for her custard tart, and had a third with the dry white made from a kit. Iris won the Millennium Shield for her lemon drizzle cake and the committee members know how good that tastes. Iris's vegetable flan also had a 'commended' card. Ray Dickson also had a third with his beer.
Well done to all three of you. My bread didn't get anywhere neither did Ray's limerick which you
can see below.

In the wine match which Keynsham & Saltford won, we were placed equal fourth with three others.
Our best result in this was a 1st in the sweet white. We will have to pull our socks up for our own wine match.
For some unknown reason the circle's limerick wasn't entered but Ray's was and here it is.

At our October meeting Graham & Iris gave a presentation of 'Viva Mexico' during which we
sampled tequila, margaritas, and Mexican food. Three brave volunteers also played
the 'Mexican Hat' game accompanied by lots of laughter and support from the rest of the members..

Several members took part in the 47th Festival of the South Western Counties
Wine and Beermakers weekend at Bowleaze Cove, Weymouth, 9th - 11th October.
Wendy and Paul were successful between them Wendy winning the Vic Winkley Memorial Cup
for her 'Beginners Sweet' and Paul gaining 2nd place with his Table white dry. Wendy also received a highly commended for her drizzle cake. Congratulations to both of you.
